In Chapter 26, Wamba enters the castle disguised as a friar and persuades Cedric to exchange clothes with him, accepting the danger of remaining a prisoner. Cedric begins his escape to seek help, but Rebecca asks him to comfort a wounded captive, and Urfried intervenes before offering to guide him.

  2. The Templar advises Front-de-Bœuf to send the supposed friar with a written request for military help.
  3. Wamba reveals himself and offers to remain in Cedric's place, refusing to substitute for Athelstane.
  4. Athelstane urges Cedric to accept, and the master exchanges clothes with his jester to seek rescue outside.
  5. Rebecca stops the disguised Cedric and asks for spiritual help for a wounded prisoner, but he refuses.
  6. Urfried orders Rebecca back to Ivanhoe's bedside and offers to guide Cedric while speaking with him.
