Co se stane

1. At dinner in Mayence, Flemming joins a German gentleman and a pale lady in a discussion of Jean Paul.
2. The gentleman praises Jean Paul’s humanity, endurance, imagination, and mixture of comic and serious writing, while Flemming adds his own comparisons.
3. A beadle guides Flemming through the cathedral and ruined cloisters, where he sees Frauenlob’s tomb.
4. Flemming spends the night in Bingen and discovers that apparent Gothic ruins are merely a roof and chimneys.
5. Entering Heidelberg, he reflects on how little an unfamiliar city knows or needs an individual traveler.
6. The Baron of Hohenfels warmly welcomes Flemming, and the friends spend the evening exchanging thoughts and experiences.
