Shrnutí Gadsby: Part XVII

Part XVII z 43 · Čtení part zabere 6 min.

In XVII, Kathlyn announces her engagement to John Smith and chooses a small wedding at home rather than a grand church ceremony. The household cleans and decorates for their marriage, while Gadsby reflects on discarding outdated ideas and both parents feel the emptiness that accompanies their daughters’ departures.

Co se stane

  1. Lady Gadsby tells Gadsby about Kathlyn and John Smith’s engagement, and Kathlyn shares the news at a small lunch.
  2. Kathlyn rejects elaborate ceremony and customary wedding pranks in favor of a quiet gathering of friends.
  3. Household cleaning prompts Gadsby to compare accumulated clutter with outdated beliefs that people should discard.
  4. Gadsby, Bill, and Julius help decorate the parlor, and Parson Brown marries Kathlyn and John with Sarah Young playing piano.
  5. The parents feel their daughters’ absence, while town gossip considers Bill and Julius as possible husbands.
