Shrnutí Frankenstein: Chapter 18

Chapter 18 z 28 · Part 2 · Čtení chapter zabere 12 min.

In Chapter 18, Victor delays marrying Elizabeth and gains his father’s permission to visit England, secretly seeking knowledge needed to create the creature’s mate. He travels with Clerval through the Rhine region to London, finding brief relief in nature while remaining burdened by his promise and fears for his family.

Co se stane

  1. Back in Geneva, Victor delays his work despite fearing the creature’s revenge, while solitude on the lake sometimes restores his calm.
  2. His father proposes immediate marriage, but Victor declares his love for Elizabeth and requests a journey to England instead.
  3. Victor leaves in late September with chemical instruments, hoping the creature follows him rather than threatening his family.
  4. Clerval joins him at Strasbourg, and they travel along the Rhine, where scenery briefly eases Victor’s distress.
  5. Victor praises Clerval’s affection and imagination, then interrupts his account to grieve over his friend’s death.
  6. The companions continue through Holland, sail from Rotterdam, and reach London after seeing Britain in late December.
