Shrnutí Flatland: Section 22

Section 22 z 22 · Part 2: Other Worlds “O brave new worlds, that have such people in them!” · Čtení section zabere 7 min.

In Section 22, the narrator writes a treatise about Three Dimensions, then openly describes his experiences at a society meeting and receives a sentence of life imprisonment. After seven years, he has no converts, including his visiting brother, and his hope of reaching others through his memoirs competes with doubts about his own perceptions.

Co se stane

  1. The narrator writes a treatise using Thoughtland to discuss higher dimensions indirectly, but Flatland’s limited diagrams prevent clear illustration.
  2. His memories grow less certain, and he increasingly voices forbidden ideas despite knowing the danger.
  3. At a society meeting, he openly recounts his journey with the Sphere and urges belief in Three Dimensions, prompting immediate arrest.
  4. The President replaces the guards with lower-ranking Policemen and questions the narrator’s ability to demonstrate his claims.
  5. The narrator receives life imprisonment, with occasional visits from his brother permitted.
  6. After seven years without converts, he hopes his memoirs reach receptive readers, but sometimes doubts even Flatland’s reality.
