Shrnutí Dhammapada: Chapter 24

Chapter 24 z 26 · Čtení chapter zabere 4 min.

In Chapter 24, thirst for pleasure binds people to suffering and repeated birth, while knowledge and reflection help remove desire at its source. The verses contrast attachment with freedom, praise the teaching above other gifts, and describe great rewards for giving to people free from destructive passions.

Co se stane

  1. Thirst grows in the heedless, but overcoming it makes suffering fall away.
  2. Images of roots, creepers, and flowing channels show why desire must be removed at its source.
  3. Attachment to pleasure and family binds people more strongly than physical restraints.
  4. Giving up attachment and reflecting on bodily impurity offer ways to break desire’s hold.
  5. The verses describe freedom from rebirth and praise the teaching and the ending of thirst.
  6. The closing comparisons link harmful passions to weeds and praise gifts to people free from those passions.
