Shrnutí David Copperfield: Chapter 2

Chapter 2 z 64 · Čtení chapter zabere 25 min.

In Chapter 2, Davy recalls his early home life with his mother and Peggotty, then describes how Mr. Murdstone’s visits disturb their closeness and stir his jealousy. After an outing exposes adult jokes he does not understand, he leaves with Peggotty for a fortnight in Yarmouth while his mother remains behind.

Co se stane

  1. Davy recalls his mother, Peggotty, the house, the garden, and his restless attention during church services.
  2. His questions about marriage unsettle Peggotty, and his mother returns home with a gentleman whom he immediately dislikes.
  3. Peggotty objects to the gentleman, provoking tears and an argument before the household makes peace.
  4. Mr. Murdstone takes Davy to Lowestoft, where his companions joke about Davy and admire his mother.
  5. Peggotty proposes a fortnight in Yarmouth, and Davy’s mother readily approves the visit.
  6. Davy leaves tearfully with Peggotty and sees Mr. Murdstone approach his distressed mother.
