Chapter 29 z 34 · Book 3: Harmachis’s Vengeance · Čtení chapter zabere 13 min.

In Chapter 29, Harmachis and Charmion weaken Cleopatra’s defenses through secret betrayal, while she prepares for death and Antony rallies his commanders for battle. Harmachis then challenges their renewed loyalty with a supernatural sign: Isis passes toward Caesar’s camp, and the frightened men leave him standing alone.

Co se stane

  1. Harmachis controls Antony with drugs, misleads Cleopatra with prophecies, and persuades Egyptian priests to seek peace with Caesar.
  2. Charmion secretly encourages Seleucus to surrender Pelusium, and Cleopatra stores her treasures in her tomb for possible destruction.
  3. Cleopatra tests poisons on slaves and asks Harmachis to prepare a painless means of death.
  4. Antony returns after driving back Caesar’s cavalry, but Caesar rejects his challenge to single combat.
  5. Antony addresses his commanders, promises rewards, provides for defeat, and wins their oath of loyalty.
  6. Harmachis urges the commanders to desert, summons a vision of Isis departing, and finds himself alone after they flee.
