Who Morgan le Fay is
Morgan le Fay is a queen who rules her castle and its dungeons as she pleases. She holds court in splendor, but treats her servants and prisoners as toys.
The contrast between her grand surroundings and the suffering below gives her appearance a darker force. Through her castle, Twain shows how the pageantry of chivalry can hide cruelty toward people without power.
Morgan le Fay and the others in the story
Morgan le Fay is King Arthur's sister, and her castle is among the stops on Hank and Sandy's quest. There, Hank sees the dungeons and meets people imprisoned for small offenses.
He is horrified by what he discovers and uses his authority to free some of the prisoners. His response sets his anger at injustice against the queen's casual treatment of those under her rule.
