About this book
What if pride is the one obstacle love cannot easily outrun?
In The Place of Honeymoons, Harold MacGrath brings romance into a world of European travel, pursuit, and intrigue. Grand settings frame a story in which love grows under pressure. Pride and secrets stand between two people, while misunderstanding makes their feelings difficult to speak.
MacGrath mixes love with mystery and action, keeping the pace light and brisk. His clear plots, lively talk, and short scenes draw you onward through uncertainty. The appeal lies in that restless movement: the promise of escape, the tension of pursuit, and the question of whether affection can get past ego.

From the 15-minute summary · Key idea 1
A millionaire waits at the stage door
The story opens in Paris. Courtlandt sits rigid in the Opera while a soprano sings, and her voice calls up a golden temple in Rangoon. He is young but weathered, rich beyond use, and without any goal. He has climbed mountains, hunted tigers and staged elephant fights, yet nothing has satisfied him.
After the performance he cannot stay away. He loiters outside the stage door among the young men who wait for dancers. He sees the singer, Eleonora da Toscana, step into her limousine, pale and quick. A tall man in a soft Bavarian hat offers to help her, and Courtlandt pushes him aside.
