About this book
What happens to Adam and Eve when the garden gates close behind them?
The Forgotten Books of Eden gathers ancient Jewish and Christian writings that stand outside most Bibles. In the First and Second Books of Adam and Eve, the couple face life beyond Paradise. These stories follow their hardship, grief and search for redemption, giving readers a vivid glimpse of how ancient writers imagine the world after Eden.
The Book of the Secrets of Enoch turns toward the heavens, while the Testaments of the Twelve Patriarchs brings you to the deathbeds of Jacob’s sons. The Psalms of Solomon adds poetry to this varied collection. Together, these separate works explore questions that ancient readers bring to Scripture, with each text offering its own answers.

God chooses where the exiles will live
The story opens with geography. God plants the garden in the far east, and a clear sea lies to its north. Its water is so pure that anyone who bathes in it forgets his sins. God made it for the righteous to bathe in after returning to their flesh at the last day.
So God does not place Adam on the northern side. There he would forget his fault and lose the weight of his punishment. The southern side is closed too, because a north wind would carry the scent of the garden trees and console him too easily.

What is The Forgotten Books of Eden about?
It gathers ancient writings left out of most Bibles. The Adam and Eve narrative follows the first couple after their exile from Eden, through darkness, hunger, Satan's disguises, the birth of Cain, Abel and Seth, and the line of Seth.
What is the Cave of Treasures?
It is the rock cave on the western side of the garden where God places Adam and Eve. The gold, incense and myrrh are kept there, and later the bodies of the righteous fathers are laid in it.
What does the promise of five and a half days mean?
God tells Adam he will send his Word to save him after five and a half days. God explains that this means five thousand five hundred years, and the book treats it as the time until a saviour comes.
