In Chapter 48, Xie Zhen and Xie Bao face death after Mao Taigong steals their tiger and frames them, but relatives and allies break them out of prison. The rescuers kill the Mao household and seek entry into Liangshan Marsh, where Sun Li offers to infiltrate Zhu Family Village through his connection with Luan Tingyu.

- The fugitives slaughter the Mao household, take valuables and horses, burn the estate, and travel toward Liangshan Marsh.
- Sun Li proposes entering Zhu Family Village through Luan Tingyu, and Wu Yong coordinates the scheme with Song Jiang.
