Walden, Part 14: riassunto

Part 14 di 19 · 20 min per leggere: part

In Former Inhabitants and Winter Visitors, the narrator recalls the people whose homes once stood near Walden and examines the traces they leave in plants, wells, and cellar holes. His account then turns to winter solitude, persistent outdoor walks, and the rare companions whose conversation fills his small house.

Cosa succede

  1. During snowy isolation, the narrator recalls former woodland residents and locates their homes through surviving plants, stones, and wells.
  2. He recounts the burning of Breed’s empty hut and a surviving family member’s sorrow beside its ruins.
  3. Accounts of pottery makers and Hugh Quoil lead him to consider the settlement’s disappearance and the plants that outlast its inhabitants.
  4. Deep snow limits visitors but does not stop his long walks, close observation of an owl, or journeys into town.
  5. A woodchopper, a farmer, a poet, and a philosopher provide occasional company, lively conversation, and laughter.
  6. He closes by describing his readiness to welcome a guest who never arrives.
