Treasure Island, Chapter 9: riassunto

Chapter 9 di 34 · Part 2: The Sea Cook · 7 min per leggere: chapter

In Chapter 9, Captain Smollett warns that the crew knows too much about the treasure voyage and demands tighter secrecy, safer weapons storage, and new sleeping arrangements. Dr. Livesey helps secure Mr. Trelawney’s agreement, but the captain’s strict orders leave both the squire and Hawkins hostile toward him.

Cosa succede

  1. Hawkins boards the Hispaniola, where Mr. Arrow welcomes the party and Captain Smollett requests a private discussion.
  2. Smollett criticizes the voyage’s leaked secrets, the crew’s selection, and Arrow’s excessive familiarity with the sailors.
  3. He demands that weapons move aft, Trelawney’s people sleep near the cabin, and the map remain secret.
  4. Livesey mediates, and Trelawney reluctantly accepts the precautions rather than letting Smollett resign.
  5. The men move powder and change berths; Long John questions the delay but promptly obeys the captain.
  6. Smollett sends Hawkins away from the gun to work for the cook, deepening the boy’s dislike.
