The Wind in the Willows, Chapter 9: riassunto

Chapter 9 di 12 · 24 min per leggere il capitolo

In Chapter 9, the Water Rat grows restless as animals prepare for seasonal change, and a seafaring stranger’s stories persuade him to leave his river for the South. Mole stops his dreamlike departure, comforts him with talk of home pleasures, and encourages him to write poetry as his recovery begins.

Cosa succede

  1. The Water Rat dislikes the mice’s preparations for moving and questions swallows whose memories of southern travel awaken his own longing.
  2. A Sea Rat describes his coastal journeys, and the Water Rat brings lunch so they can continue talking outdoors.
  3. The stranger’s vivid stories absorb the Water Rat, and his invitation to follow south makes departure seem irresistible.
  4. The Water Rat packs and tries to leave, but Mole restrains him and waits through his distress and sleep.
  5. Mole revives his interest in seasonal pleasures and leaves writing materials nearby; Rat begins working on poetry.
