The Talisman, Chapter 21: riassunto

Chapter 21 di 28 · 12 min per leggere: chapter

In Chapter 21, the Nubian saves Richard from an assassin, and Richard treats his wound despite his guards’ objections. Through written messages, the slave offers to expose the banner thief during the princes’ ceremonial procession, while Neville warns that this investigation threatens the recently restored unity of the Crusaders.

Cosa succede

  1. Using the polished shield as a mirror, the Nubian watches the supposed marabout creep toward Richard and stops his dagger attack.
  2. Richard kills the attacker with a stool, rebukes his guards, and sucks the Nubian’s wound because he suspects poison.
  3. The Nubian offers in writing to identify the banner thief if the Christian leaders pass before him.
  4. Richard chooses the next day’s ceremonial salute for the test, despite Neville’s warnings about renewed conflict.
  5. The Nubian requests permission to deliver Saladin’s message to Lady Edith Plantagenet, but Richard postpones an answer.
  6. Richard orders Neville to supervise the Nubian honorably and bring the hermit of Engaddi for a private meeting.
