The Interesting Narrative of the Life of Olaudah Equiano, Chapter 9: riassunto

Cosa succede

1. Delayed wages and restrictions on Black travelers obstruct Vassa, but he reaches Montserrat, obtains Robert King’s certificate, and sails to London.
2. In London, Pascal refuses his claim for prize money, while other acquaintances help him obtain training and employment.
3. Vassa studies hairdressing, music, and arithmetic, then resumes seafaring because his wages cannot cover his expenses.
4. Mediterranean voyages broaden his experience, while Caribbean trading brings further unpaid debts, threats, and encounters with slavery’s violence.
5. After returning to Dr. Irving, Vassa joins an Arctic expedition, operates water-distilling equipment, and survives a fire.
6. Ice traps both ships and prompts desperate escape efforts before changing weather releases them; the expedition survives a storm and reaches England.
