In Chapter 100, the Gentleman leaves, and the Parson shares a meal with Kit before asking him to keep watch for soldiers. The Parson’s fierce prayer makes Kit laugh, prompting a defence of prayer through an example from Lord Nelson before the old soldier falls asleep.

Cosa succede

  2. The Parson kicks Blob, then sends him with food and an apology for Piper.
  3. After their meal, Kit volunteers for the first watch and receives instructions about waking the Parson.
  4. The Parson kneels and prays for his country while calling down damnation on the French.
  5. Kit laughs, and the Parson recalls Lord Nelson explaining that his mother teaches him to pray.
  6. Kit questions the prayer’s wording, and the Parson mutters an insult before falling asleep.
