Persuasion, Chapter 2: riassunto

Cosa succede

1. Mr Shepherd leaves Lady Russell to propose economies, and she consults Anne, who urges faster repayment and deeper cuts.
2. Sir Walter rejects the proposed restrictions and declares that he prefers leaving Kellynch Hall.
3. Mr Shepherd supports moving and persuades Sir Walter to choose Bath rather than London, against Anne’s preference for a nearby house.
4. The plan includes letting Kellynch Hall, but Sir Walter forbids publicity and demands a suitable applicant who accepts his terms.
5. Lady Russell also welcomes the move because she hopes it separates Elizabeth from Mrs. Clay, whose friendship she distrusts.
