Oliver Twist, Chapter 30: riassunto

Chapter 30 di 53 · 10 min per leggere: chapter

In Chapter 30, Rose and Mrs. Maylie find a wounded child instead of the criminal they expect, and Oliver tells them his history after waking that evening. Mr. Losberne tries to protect him by questioning Giles and Brittles about their identification, but the arrival of officers interrupts his effort.

Cosa succede

  1. Mr. Losberne brings Mrs. Maylie and Rose to Oliver’s bedside, where his youth and injuries move them.
  2. Rose argues that neglect and force may explain his involvement in crime, and Mrs. Maylie asks how to protect him.
  3. The doctor agrees to intervene if questioning Oliver does not convince them that he is thoroughly bad.
  4. Oliver wakes in the evening and recounts his suffering, receiving sympathy and gentle care.
  5. Downstairs, the doctor intimidates Giles and Brittles into doubting whether they can identify Oliver under oath.
  6. A bell and approaching wheels interrupt them, and Brittles announces the arrival of officers whom the servants summon that morning.
