Cosa succede

1. While Jean Valjean is out, Cosette sits in the garden and feels a vague evening sadness.
2. After briefly walking away, she finds a stone on her bench and fears someone has reached through the railing.
3. Toussaint’s account of possible intruders increases Cosette’s terror, and Cosette orders a search and checks the locks.
4. At sunrise, Cosette dismisses her fears but returns to the bench and finds the stone still there.
5. Beneath the stone, she discovers an unsealed envelope containing an unsigned notebook and begins to read.
