In Chapter 9, King Arthur, King Ban, and King Bors stop a tournament when anger rises, then reward three knights and plan military support. Merlin brings ten thousand mounted men from overseas into hiding at Bedegraine, while Arthur marches with twenty thousand men and restricts enemy scouting.

Cosa succede

  1. Griflet and Ladinas knock each other down, and Lucas the butler helps Griflet return to the fighting.
  2. Sir Kay excels, but mounting anger after several falls leads the three kings to stop the tournament.
  3. The kings award prizes to Sir Kay, Lucas the butler, and Sir Griflet, then hold council.
  4. Merlin takes King Ban’s ring overseas, where fifteen thousand fighting men assemble and Gracian and Placidas secure the castles.
  5. Merlin brings ten thousand mounted men to England through Dover and secretly places them in a valley at Bedegraine.
  6. Arthur marches with twenty thousand men, while Merlin’s token system prevents enemies from freely scouting south of the Trent.
