Le Morte Darthur, Chapter 184: riassunto

Chapter 184 di 503 · 3 min per leggere: chapter

In Chapter 184, Sir Tristram returns Queen Isoud to King Mark, but Sir Andred’s report provokes an armed confrontation and Tristram’s violent departure. After Tristram kills and wounds men in Mark’s service, the barons urge reconciliation, and Mark welcomes him back without discussing the conflict.

Cosa succede

  1. Sir Palamides departs sorrowfully, while Sir Tristram brings Queen Isoud back to King Mark and arranges for Sir Lambegus to return and recover.
  2. Sir Andred reports seeing Tristram talking with Isoud, and Mark attacks Tristram with a sword.
  3. Tristram disarms Mark, strikes him with the sword’s flat, and rides into the forest after Mark’s men refuse to attack.
  4. Tristram kills one brother, fatally wounds the other, sends him to Mark carrying the severed head, and wounds thirty more men.
  5. Sir Dinas and the barons advise peace because Tristram’s strength and potential allies make continued hostility dangerous.
  6. Mark receives Tristram under safe conduct, leaves the quarrel unmentioned, and goes hunting with him and the queen.

Cosa notare

The warning makes Tristram’s support central to the council’s advice. Mark chooses reconciliation rather than risking a stronger opposition.
