Ivanhoe, Chapter 27: riassunto

Chapter 27 di 44 · 27 min per leggere: chapter

In Chapter 27, Ulrica reveals her identity and promises revenge within Torquilstone, while Cedric escapes disguised as a priest through Front-de-Bœuf’s own assistance. Wamba’s discovery exposes the escape, negotiations over the captives stall, and news of the besiegers’ organized advance sends the Norman knights to their defensive posts.

Cosa succede

  1. Urfried identifies herself as Ulrica and describes her enslavement, her hatred, and her part in turning Front-de-Bœuf’s father against his son.
  2. Ulrica promises internal revenge and tells Cedric to press the attack when a red flag appears on the eastern turret.
  3. Mistaking Cedric for a priest, Front-de-Bœuf sends him outside with instructions to delay the attackers and carry a message requesting assistance.
  4. Wamba’s disguise is exposed, and De Bracy intervenes when Front-de-Bœuf threatens to kill him.
  5. Athelstane offers ransom but refuses terms that exclude Rowena and Wamba; Ambrose arrives seeking help for the captured Prior.
  6. The knights observe the attackers’ disciplined advance, recognize a black-armored leader, and divide responsibility for defending the castle.
