Homer, Chapter 9: riassunto

Chapter 9 di 26 · 7 min per leggere: chapter

In Chapter 9, Achilles makes peace with Agamemnon and returns to battle, driven by grief for Patroclus and a fierce desire for revenge. His attack overwhelms the Trojans, provokes the river god, and brings divine intervention, until the defenders retreat inside Troy and Hector remains outside alone.

Cosa succede

  1. Achilles renounces his anger against Agamemnon, accepts reconciliation gifts, and impatiently waits while the army eats.
  2. Briseis mourns Patroclus, while Achilles refuses food and receives divine nourishment before putting on his armor.
  3. Xanthus warns Achilles of his approaching death, but Achilles accepts his fate and drives into battle.
  4. Gods rescue Aeneas and Hector, while Achilles slaughters Trojans, captures twelve youths for sacrifice, and rejects Lycaon’s plea for mercy.
  5. The river attacks Achilles over the corpses choking its waters, but divine help and Vulcan’s fire force it to retreat.
  6. Achilles drives the Trojans behind their walls, leaving Hector outside, while the gods fight among themselves.
