Chapter 27 di 28 · 23 min per leggere il capitolo

In Chapter 27, Bazarov returns to his parents, helps with medical work, and contracts a fatal infection after cutting himself while examining a dead patient. As his strength fails, he asks to see Anna Sergievna Odintsov, acknowledges his love and disappointed ambitions, and dies while his parents struggle with grief.

Cosa succede

  1. Bazarov returns home seeking uninterrupted work, but restlessness replaces his concentration, and conversations with peasants expose their contempt for him.
  2. He begins helping his delighted father treat patients, then cuts his finger while examining the body of a typhus victim.
  3. Fever and red patches develop; Bazarov identifies his infection as pyemia and asks his father to summon Madame Odintsov.
  4. His parents pray and seek medical help, while Bazarov postpones religious observances and struggles to keep his mind clear.
  5. Anna Sergievna Odintsov arrives with another doctor, hears Bazarov’s farewell, and kisses his forehead.
  6. Bazarov loses consciousness, receives the last rites, and dies; his father protests before both parents collapse together in grief.
