Chapter 19 di 28 · 11 min per leggere il capitolo

In Chapter 19, Bazarov leaves Nikolsköe after an uncomfortable farewell with Anna Sergievna, and Arkady decides to leave as well despite his attachment to the household. Their strained friendship softens when Arkady joins him on the journey to his parents, while Bazarov attacks emotional dependence on women and shows signs of distress.

Cosa succede

  1. Bazarov apologizes to Anna Sergievna, questions whether she could love him, and insists on leaving while she privately feels afraid.
  2. Sitnikov arrives uninvited, and his awkward presence eases the household’s tension.
  3. Arkady decides to leave too, misses Katia in advance, and challenges Bazarov’s claim to superiority.
  4. The guests depart, but at Khokhlovskïe Viselki Arkady abandons Sitnikov’s carriage and joins Bazarov instead of returning to Marino.
  5. Bazarov accepts Arkady’s friendly gesture, complains about his health, and warns him against becoming dependent on women.
  6. They approach Bazarov’s family home, where he recognizes his father coming onto the veranda.
