Fathers and Sons, Chapter 11: riassunto

Chapter 11 di 28 · 6 min per leggere il capitolo

In Chapter 11, Nikolai Petrovitch broods over his distance from Arkady, finds comfort in nature, and longs for his dead wife, Maria, before Thenichka recalls him to the present. Bazarov proposes visiting the town with Arkady, and their departure the next day brings sorrow to Marino’s young people but relief to their elders.

Cosa succede

  1. Nikolai Petrovitch withdraws to the garden and questions what gives the younger generation an advantage over his own.
  2. The evening landscape moves him toward poetry, but thoughts of Arkady interrupt his pleasure.
  3. He remembers meeting Maria and longs to recover their early happiness until Thenichka’s call breaks his reverie.
  4. Nikolai paces tearfully, meets Paul Petrovitch, and explains his distress before returning toward the house.
  5. Bazarov proposes visiting the town with Arkady, then going to his parents rather than returning directly to Marino.
  6. The two leave the next day, disappointing the younger household members and relieving the older ones.
