Don Quixote, Chapter 69: riassunto

Chapter 69 di 129 · Part 1 · 8 min per leggere: chapter

In Chapter 69, Don Quixote and Sancho enter a brightly lit courtyard where Altisidora lies apparently dead, and costumed judges demand that Sancho suffer to revive her. When she moves, the company celebrates her return, while Don Quixote urges Sancho to use his supposed healing power to free Dulcinea from enchantment.

Cosa succede

  1. Horsemen and foot soldiers carry Don Quixote and Sancho into a courtyard, where Altisidora lies on a bier before an assembled court.
  2. An attendant dresses Sancho in a flame-painted robe and pointed hood, while music and a singer honor Altisidora.
  3. Minos invites Rhadamanthus to announce the remedy, which requires smacks, pinches, and pinpricks inflicted on Sancho.
  4. After protesting, Sancho submits to blows and pinches, but takes up a burning torch against his tormentors when they use pins.
  5. Altisidora moves, and Don Quixote asks Sancho to lash himself for Dulcinea; Sancho refuses further suffering.
  6. Altisidora thanks Sancho and offers him shirts; he receives permission to keep his ceremonial clothing before returning to his quarters.

Cosa notare
