Dhammapada, Chapter 14: riassunto

Chapter 14 di 26 · 2 min per leggere: chapter

In Chapter 14, the Awakened resist desire and teach goodness, mental purity, patience, and restraint, while the verses distinguish unreliable shelters from refuge in the Buddha, the Law, and the Church. The teaching connects freedom from suffering with understanding four holy truths and praises peaceful communities and homage to those who achieve deliverance.

Cosa succede

  1. The opening verses describe the Awakened as beyond defeat and desire, and say that even gods envy their meditative peace.
  2. Human birth, mortal life, hearing the teaching, and attaining awakening are described as difficult.
  3. The teaching calls for goodness, a pure mind, patience, nonviolence, moderation, solitude, and disciplined thought.
  4. Neither wealth nor heavenly pleasure satisfies desire; the awakened disciple delights in its ending.
  5. Natural shelters cannot end suffering, but refuge in the Buddha, the Law, and the Church accompanies understanding the four holy truths.
  6. The closing verses praise the rare Buddha, communal peace, and the immeasurable merit of honoring those who attain deliverance.
