Ben-Hur, Part 5, Chapter 7: riassunto

Cosa succede

1. Ben-Hur enters alone and accepts Simonides’ greeting, seeking a bond like that between father and son rather than master and servant.
2. With Ilderim as witness and Esther assisting, Simonides accounts for 120 talents preserved from Ben-Hur’s father and 553 talents earned.
3. Ben-Hur offers Simonides the wealth except his father’s original capital, requiring their shared resources to support the search for his mother and sister.
4. A supplementary list identifies Simonides and Esther as servants, prompting Ben-Hur to declare them free.
5. Simonides explains that his chosen lifelong servitude prevents legal freedom, and Ben-Hur confirms him as steward.
6. Esther asks to care for her father, and Ben-Hur grants her request.
