Who Ghost of Christmas Past is

The Ghost of Christmas Past is the first of the three Christmas spirits who visit Ebenezer Scrooge after Jacob Marley's warning. Its appearance brings youth and age together, while a bright light streams from its head. It carries a cap that can put out the light and takes Scrooge by the hand to guide him into the past.

What Ghost of Christmas Past wants

The spirit shows Scrooge how he comes to be so cold, returning him to experiences he has left behind. He sees himself as a lonely schoolboy, then remembers his sister Fan coming to bring him home. These memories stir feelings that his concern for money usually keeps out of sight.

At Fezziwig's Christmas party, the spirit lets Scrooge see how a generous employer brings happiness to others. Scrooge thinks of Bob Cratchit and wishes he had spoken differently to his clerk. When Belle releases him from their engagement because gold has replaced her, he begs the spirit to take him home.
