The Talisman – Chapter 17 összefoglaló

Chapter 17 / 28 · 14 perc a fejezet elolvasására

In Chapter 17, Berengaria, Edith, and a Carmelite hermit plead for the Scottish knight’s life, but Richard refuses to pardon what he considers an insult to England’s honor. The Hakim’s arrival secures a delay until noon, while Edith openly acknowledges the knight’s devotion and rejects marriage for political advantage.

Mi történik?

  1. Edith forces an entrance for Berengaria, and the Queen persuades Richard to dismiss the executioner before asking him to spare the Scottish knight.
  2. Richard rejects Berengaria’s offer to replace the banner, insisting that material gifts cannot repair England’s damaged honor.
  3. Edith explains that a message using her name draws the knight from his post, then defends his devotion despite Richard’s threats.
  4. A Carmelite hermit reports that Gilsland delays the execution and invokes a confession he cannot reveal, but Richard refuses his appeal.
  5. The Hakim requests a private conversation, and Richard dismisses the women while postponing the execution until noon.
  6. Edith quietly tends the distressed Queen, while Calista admits that their jest causes terrible harm.
