The Symposium – Part III összefoglaló

Part III / 9 · 6 perc a rész elolvasására

In III, Socrates asks the diners to contribute their own entertainment, prompting a round of declarations about what each values most in himself. Their answers range from justice and learning to beauty, poverty, and family affection, while Callias postpones explaining how he makes people better.

Mi történik?

  1. A boy sings with instrumental accompaniment, and Charmides praises the performance for easing sorrow and stirring desire.
  2. Socrates urges the guests to entertain one another and asks Callias to demonstrate his promised wisdom.
  3. Callias claims to improve people through justice and asks everyone to name a personal source of pride.
  4. The guests name learning, beauty, wealth, poverty, matchmaking for payment, and the ability to provoke laughter.
  5. Lycon and Autolycus each express pride in the other, and Callias describes the father's affection as unmatched wealth.
  6. Hermogenes praises his powerful, caring friends and agrees to introduce them when the company asks.

Mire figyelj
