Who Colin Craven is
Colin Craven is ten years old, pale and thin, and has been kept in his room for years. He is Archibald Craven's son, and his life is shaped by loneliness and the belief that he is very ill. The servants give him whatever he wants, while his fear often breaks out in violent fits of temper.
Colin Craven and the others in the story

How Colin Craven changes
Mary tells Colin about India, the moor, and Dickon Sowerby's friendship with animals. Colin becomes eager to meet Dickon, giving him something to want beyond being left alone with his fear. Their cautious friendship begins to draw his attention toward a world outside his room.
