The Gentleman – Chapter 142 összefoglaló

Chapter 142 / 198 · Book 4: Nelson · 2 perc a fejezet elolvasására

In Chapter 142, Kit follows the eager Parson uphill past dead men, feeling sickened by battle and longing for the sea and home. Their opposite reactions sharpen the contrast between the Parson’s delight in fighting and Kit’s wish to escape danger and feel like a child again.

Mi történik?

  1. The Parson runs uphill eagerly, while Kit follows with dragging feet and longs for open water.
  2. Dead men lie across the green toward the house, reminding Kit of the pursuit involving the Grenadiers, the Parson, and the Gentleman.
  3. Kit longs for his mother, Gwen, and the comfort of being loved rather than fighting.
  4. He feels an unexplained familiarity with his sickness at returning to a battlefield in the evening.
  5. The Parson counts five dead men and describes catching the last, while Kit struggles with the smell of death.

Mire figyelj

The closing question conveys Kit’s distress through a physical sensation. It contrasts sharply with the Parson’s excited account of killing.
