The Federalist Papers – Federalist No. 56 összefoglaló

Federalist No. 56 / 85 · 6 perc a tanulmány elolvasására

In Federalist No. 56, Madison answers the charge that the House is too small to understand its constituents by limiting the knowledge representatives need to matters under federal authority. He argues that state laws, legislative experience, and Britain’s example support the proposed ratio, while population growth permits increased representation.

Mi történik?

  1. Madison states the objection that the House lacks enough members to understand the people it represents.
  2. He argues that representatives need detailed knowledge only of matters within their legislative authority.
  3. He examines commerce, taxation, and militia rules, arguing that a few informed representatives can supply each state’s relevant knowledge.
  4. He distinguishes knowledge within states from knowledge across states and links growing internal complexity to increased representation.
  5. He uses Britain’s representation figures to defend one House member per thirty thousand inhabitants.
