Ben-Hur – Chapter 9 összefoglaló

Chapter 9 / 88 · Book 1 · 14 perc a(z) chapter elolvasására

In Chapter 9, Joseph and Mary reach Bethlehem’s crowded khan, where the census and a caravan leave no lodging available inside. After Joseph appeals for his wife’s protection from the cold, the keeper leads them and a family from Beth-Dagon to a cave used as a stable.

Mi történik?

  1. The narrator explains that khans offer free shelter and protection, while travelers supply their own food and bedding.
  2. Outside Bethlehem’s crowded khan, Joseph meets a man from Beth-Dagon who offers Mary the company of his family.
  3. The keeper explains that census travelers and a caravan fill the khan, and Joseph’s ancestry cannot displace existing guests.
  4. Joseph stresses Mary’s need for shelter and names her parents, whom the keeper remembers.
  5. The keeper offers accommodation for both families and leads them through the crowded grounds to a cave.
  6. Mary calls the place sacred, and the guests begin preparing it for their stay.
