About this book

What if the greatest discovery beneath Antarctic ice is something no scientist should disturb?

William Dyer wants to stop an expedition. A geologist at Miskatonic University, he knows what a journey into Antarctica can cost. In H. P. Lovecraft’s At the Mountains of Madness, he sets down his warning: a drilling mission, a strange find beneath the ice, and discoveries that leave him afraid of what other scientists might uncover.

Away from the main base, the biologist Lake leads a party into ancient rock and finds strange specimens. Then a fierce storm rises, and the radio falls silent. Dyer and the pilot Danforth must seek answers beyond the camp. Science guides their search, but each reasonable step brings them closer to something that threatens Dyer’s peace of mind.

What you’ll discover

  • A warning worth hearing Follow a shaken scientist who must explain why another expedition should never go south.
  • Terror grounded in science Feel facts, measurements, and geology become the foundations of a slow descent into dread.

  • Curiosity under pressure Watch the urge to understand pull Dyer onward even as his fear grows.

A scientist writes to stop others

The story opens with Dyer already shaken. He writes because scientists are planning a new Antarctic trip, and he fears they will wake what the first one found. He admits he has held back details until now, and he promises to give them in order, with as little drama as he can manage.
