The Time Machine – Chapter 5-tiivistelmä
Chapter 5 / 17 · chapter lukemiseen 7 min
In Chapter 5, the traveller meets gentle, fragile people whose simple questions disappoint his hopes of finding an intellectually advanced future society. They welcome him with flowers and a fruit meal inside a grand but decaying building, where his efforts to learn their language meet laughter and quickly fading attention.
Mitä tapahtuu
- Small, friendly people gather around the traveller, who removes the Time Machine’s operating levers before attempting to communicate.
- One person asks whether he comes from the sun during a storm, disappointing his expectations of advanced intelligence.
- The people cover him with flowers and lead him into a huge stone building, leaving the machine outside.
- He shares their fruit meal and notices damaged windows, dusty curtains, and worn flooring amid the hall’s richness.
- He learns some vocabulary, but his hosts tire of teaching, forcing him to accept brief lessons.
