The Talisman, Chapter 16 yhteenveto

Chapter 16 / 28 · 8 min luvun lukemiseen

In Chapter 16, Berengaria’s amusement at Sir Kenneth’s expense turns to fear when Edith learns that the Standard is missing and the knight faces Richard. Edith demands immediate action, but the Queen delays over excuses and clothing before finally setting out with her attendants to plead for his life.

Mitä tapahtuu

  1. Berengaria’s ladies exploit her jealousy of Edith, turning the Scottish knight’s devotion into material for court amusement.
  2. After Sir Kenneth leaves, the Queen dismisses Edith’s protests with jokes about his appearance, nationality, and poverty.
  3. Morning inquiries reveal that the Standard is missing and its defender has disappeared, prompting Edith to demand the Queen’s intervention.
  4. Lady Calista reports that the knight faces Richard, while Berengaria offers religious vows and struggles to prepare herself.
  5. Edith threatens to appeal directly to Richard when the Queen delays over her gown and necklace.
  6. Calista persuades Berengaria to act, and the Queen hurries toward Richard’s tent with Edith and her attendants.
