Flatland – Section 18-tiivistelmä

Section 18 / 22 · Part 2: Other Worlds “O brave new worlds, that have such people in them!” · section lukemiseen 7 min

In Section 18, the Sphere carries the narrator through Spaceland, where he sees Flatland’s interiors and mistakes expanded sight for divine power. Their visit to the ruling Council reveals an established policy of suppressing revelations about other worlds, and the narrator watches his brother receive a sentence of lifelong imprisonment.

Mitä tapahtuu

  1. The narrator struggles with three-dimensional sight, worships the Sphere, and learns that he sees its surface rather than its organs.
  2. Looking down into his house, he sees his anxious Wife, sleeping descendants, and a Page searching his cabinet.
  3. As they rise, the narrator sees more of Flatland and claims divine sight, but the Sphere separates vision from moral goodness.
  4. At the General Assembly Hall, the narrator hears his brother read rules prescribing punishment for people claiming revelations from another world.
  5. The Sphere enters the Council and announces three dimensions, then escapes the Isosceles policemen who try to seize him.
  6. The President orders the policemen arrested and silenced, then sentences the narrator’s brother to lifelong imprisonment to preserve secrecy.

Mihin kiinnittää huomiota
