Who Detective Fix is
Detective Fix is a police detective watching arrivals at Suez after a robbery at the Bank of England. He sees the quiet English traveler Phileas Fogg and decides that he matches the thief's vague description. The evidence is thin, but Fogg's wealth and hurried journey seem suspicious to him.
What Detective Fix wants
Fix wants to arrest Fogg, and he is eager for both the reward and the credit. Without the warrant from London, he cannot make the arrest he wants in British territory. He follows the travelers and looks for ways to hold them back until the paperwork arrives.
Detective Fix and the others in the story
Passepartout's friendly talk gives Fix information about Fogg's plans and the unusual journey. Fix uses the servant's openness against him, turning ordinary conversation into a means of pursuit.
His interference makes Fogg's race against the clock more uncertain at every stage. Fix is stubborn and scheming, yet his belief in his own duty keeps him from being a simple villain.
