Anabasis – Book 4-tiivistelmä

Book 4 / 56 · Book 1 · book lukemiseen 1 min

In Book 4, the Hellenes reach a point where the Tigris and the steep surrounding hills block their way, so the generals decide to cross the Carduchian mountains. Reports from prisoners suggest possible routes beyond the mountains, and the army plans a secret, rapid entry before enemy forces can hold the passes.

Mitä tapahtuu

  1. The narrative recalls the march, the battle, the truce, and renewed fighting after the king and Tissaphernes break the treaty.
  2. The Tigris is too deep and wide to cross, and steep Carduchian hills prevent movement along its bank.
  3. The generals decide to force their way through the mountains.
  4. Prisoners report that crossing the mountains offers a choice between crossing the Tigris near its source and going around the mountains.
  5. The army plans to enter Carduchian territory secretly and quickly before the enemy occupies the passes.
