Shakespeare's Sonnet 150

Las palabras de Shakespeare junto a una versión en lenguaje actual y sencillo, línea por línea. Lectura gratuita.

O! from what power hast thou this powerful might,With insufficiency my heart to sway?To make me give the lie to my true sight,And swear that brightness doth not grace the day?Whence hast thou this becoming of things ill,That in the very refuse of thy deedsThere is such strength and warrantise of skill,That, in my mind, thy worst all best exceeds?Who taught thee how to make me love thee more,The more I hear and see just cause of hate?O! though I love what others do abhor,With others thou shouldst not abhor my state:If thy unworthiness rais’d love in me,More worthy I to be belov’d of thee.

What power gives you this mighty ability to rule my heart through your shortcomings? To make me deny what my eyes truly see and swear that brightness does not make the day beautiful? Where do you get this gift for making bad things attractive, so that even your most worthless actions show such power and convincing skill that, to me, your worst surpasses everyone else's best? Who taught you to make me love you more as I hear and see more good reasons to hate you? Though I love what others find disgusting, you should not join them in despising me for it. If your unworthiness made me love you, I am all the more worthy of being loved by you.

Preguntas sobre este soneto

Is the modern version the whole text?

Yes. Every line of the sonnet is here in plain modern English, in the same order, beside Shakespeare's own words.
