About this book
What if the road across Scotland leads a young woman toward the life she wants?
In The Heather-Moon, C. N. Williamson and A. M. Williamson bring together a spirited young heroine, a Scottish journey and the pull of romance. Travel opens her eyes to who she is and what she wants. The road offers more than a change of scene: it gives her room to consider her own wishes.
Scotland gives this light romance its colour and mood. Against a landscape of heather, hills and lochs, questions of identity and freedom meet the claims of the heart. At its centre is a young woman drawn between what others expect and what she feels—a choice that gives the journey its personal stakes.

In short
The Heather-Moon is a romantic novel by C. N. Williamson and A. M. Williamson, the husband and wife team who wrote many motoring romances in the early twentieth century. It follows Barrie MacDonald, an eighteen-year-old raised in a stern house near Carlisle, who learns one August day that her mother is alive and acts on the stage.
From the 15-minute summary · Key idea 1
A forbidden attic and a hidden mother
The story opens at Hillard House, a grim home where the road meets the moors near Carlisle. Barrie, eighteen, lives there with her stern grandmother, Mrs. MacDonald, a governess named Miss Hepburn and a housekeeper, Mrs. Muir. Romance is forbidden in this house, so Barrie feeds her hunger for it by peeping through the keyhole of the locked attic door and calling the gold dust she sees fairy gold.
One morning Mrs. Muir forgets to lock the door. Barrie slips up the creaking stairs into a vast attic full of trunks, old furniture and banished books. The air smells of spices, dust and old leather, and she feels perfectly happy for the first time.
