Shakespeare in heutigem Englisch

Shakespeare's Sonnet 76

Shakespeares Worte neben einer leicht verständlichen Fassung in heutigem Englisch, Zeile für Zeile. Kostenlos lesen.

Why is my verse so barren of new pride,So far from variation or quick change? Why with the time do I not glance asideTo new-found methods, and to compounds strange? Why write I still all one, ever the same,And keep invention in a noted weed,That every word doth almost tell my name,Showing their birth, and where they did proceed?O! know sweet love I always write of you,And you and love are still my argument; So all my best is dressing old words new,Spending again what is already spent:For as the sun is daily new and old,So is my love still telling what is told.

Why is my poetry so lacking in new splendor,
So far from variety or sudden change?
Why do I not follow the times and turn
To newly invented methods and strange combinations?
Why do I keep writing the same way, always the same,
And dress my imagination in such familiar clothes
That almost every word reveals my name,
Showing where it was born and where it came from?
Know, sweet love, that I always write about you,
And you and love are always my subject.
So the best I can do is dress old words in new clothes,
Spending again what has already been spent.
For just as the sun is new and old each day,
My love keeps telling what has already been told.

Fragen zu diesem Sonett

Is the modern version the whole text?

Yes. Every line of the sonnet is here in plain modern English, in the same order, beside Shakespeare's own words.
