Worum es in diesem Buch geht
Dracula's Guest is a short horror story by Bram Stoker. It was printed in 1914, two years after his death, in a book of his weird tales gathered by his widow, Florence. Many readers know it as a chapter that Stoker cut from the early drafts of Dracula, which came out in 1897. It stands alone well, though, and it gives you a single night of fear in a few pages.
The story follows an Englishman travelling through Europe who stops in Munich on his way to Transylvania. It is the eve of Walpurgis Night, a night of old folk belief when spirits and witches were said to walk. He ignores every warning and goes out into the hills. Let us begin with the hotel in Munich, where the first warning is spoken.

A warning in Munich before the drive
The story opens in Munich on a bright day in early summer. An Englishman is about to take a carriage drive before he continues to Transylvania. He is cheerful and curious, and he trusts his own judgment.
His hotel manager, Herr Delbrück, seems uneasy as they part. He tells the coachman to be back before dark, and he says it with a worried look. The coachman, Johann, is a quiet man who keeps glancing at the sky.
The traveller notices this and teases Johann about it. Why does the man fear the evening so much? Johann answers with a single word, Walpurgis Nacht, and the Englishman begins to see that the date matters. The warning hangs over the whole drive, and the reader knows he should have listened.
