About this book
What if staying young forever means leaving behind the people who wait for you to come home?
A strange visitor appears in the Darling family nursery: Peter Pan, the boy who will not grow up. He teaches Wendy, John and Michael to fly and takes them to Neverland. There, children fight pirates and play at being a family. But Captain Hook wants revenge, and Wendy finds that adventure comes with responsibilities she cannot simply wish away.
In J. M. Barrie’s Peter Pan, mermaids, fairies and sword fights share a world with quieter questions about time and memory. Wendy becomes a mother to the Lost Boys, while Tinker Bell fiercely guards her place beside Peter. A teasing storyteller keeps the adventure moving, yet beneath the jokes lies the sadness of childhood passing and parents waiting at home.

A shadow is left behind in the nursery
The story opens with its most quoted sentence, which says that all children, except one, grow up. We meet Wendy Darling, who learns this at the age of two while playing in a garden. Her mother tells her that two is the end of it. From then on Wendy knows she must grow up, and the knowledge sits quietly under everything that follows.
The Darlings live in London. Mr. Darling is a anxious man who worries about money and respectability. Mrs. Darling is dreamy and kind, and each night she tidies her children's minds as one tidies a drawer. Wendy has two younger brothers, John and Michael. Their nurse is Nana, a large dog, which is a joke Mr. Darling takes seriously and then regrets.
