For readers who love gentle fantasy, odd magic and clever rescues, and anyone who wants to finish the Oz series. It will also please young listeners.
Che cos’è questo libro
Glinda of Oz is the fourteenth and last Oz book written by L. Frank Baum. It came out in 1920, a year after his death, and he wrote it in the same plain, bright style as the rest of the series. It is a quest for peace rather than a quest for treasure. Two peoples in a far corner of Oz are about to go to war, and the young ruler Ozma sets out to stop them.
You travel with Ozma and her friend Dorothy through the mountains and lakes of the Gillikin country. You meet a ruler who keeps his brains in cans, a sorceress who rules a city under a dome, and the kind enchantress Glinda, who has a book that records everything that happens in the world. The story is short, quick and full of odd inventions. First, we begin with the problem that sends the two girls on their way.

A war brews at the edge of Oz
The story opens with Ozma, the girl ruler of Oz, and her friend Dorothy paying a visit to Glinda. Ozma learns that two peoples in the far mountains, the Flatheads and the Skeezers, are quarrelling and may soon fight. Ozma does not like the thought of any fighting in her land.
Dorothy has often travelled in Oz, and she is ready to help. The two girls are not hurrying into danger by accident. Ozma wants to see the trouble herself and offer peace before any blood is shed.
But Ozma does not simply set off alone. During her visit, she consults Glinda the Good, the powerful sorceress who lives in the Quadling country in the south. Glinda is Ozma's trusted ally and a skilled magician. Her castle is a place of calm and learning, and she helps Ozma think through the journey.
So the journey begins with a plan rather than a rush. Baum sets up the problem clearly and keeps the tone light. You feel that Ozma's kindness is her chief strength, and that she will need every bit of it before the adventure ends.
